Reconstitution of Laminin-111 Biological Activity Using Multiple Peptide Coupled to Chitosan Scaffolds
The active peptide-chitosan matrices described here have potential for use as biomaterial for tissue engineering and regeneration. [Biomaterials] Abstract

Biochemical and Mechanical Environment Cooperatively Regulate Skeletal Muscle Regeneration
To directly determine how extracellular matrix and tissue stiffness combine to affect skeletal muscle fragmentation, migration, and fusion, researchers coated silicone-based substrates with matrices representative of transitional and differentiated environments. [FASEB J] Abstract

The Host Response to Endotoxin Contaminated Dermal Matrix
Researchers examined the in vitro and in vivo effects of endotoxin contamination within an extracellular matrix scaffold derived from porcine dermis upon the host immune response and the downstream ability of the scaffold material to promote constructive tissue remodeling. [Tissue Eng Part A] Abstract

Development and Validation of a Three-Dimensional In Vitro Model for Uterine Leiomyoma and Patient-Matched Myometrium
Researchers objective was to develop and validate a three-dimensional culture system of leiomyoma and myometrial cells. [Fertil Steril] Abstract

Erythrocytes Express Chondroitin Sulphate/Dermatan Sulphate, Which Undergoes Quantitative Changes during Diabetes and Mediate Erythrocyte Adhesion to Extracellular Matrix Components
Scientists explored the nature of glycosaminoglycans present in erythrocytes and its role on adhesion of erythrocytes from control and diabetic rats to major extracellular matrix components. [Biochimie] Abstract

SPARC/SFN Interaction, Suppresses Type I Collagen in Dermal Fibroblasts
Scientists determined that stratifin (SFN) and SPARC form a complex thereby controlling the type I collagen synthesis and expression in fibroblasts. The levels of these proteins in fibrotic tissues were also evaluated and a differential expression of these proteins between normal and fibrotic tissue confirmed their potential role in development of fibrotic condition. [J Cell Biochem] Abstract

Beta3-Integrin Is Required for Differentiation in OC-2 Cells Derived from Mammalian Embryonic Inner Ear
Researchers hypothesized that integrin proteins, which are involved in cell attachment to extracellular matrix proteins and cellular signaling, play a role in the differentiation process of the precursor inner ear epithelial cells. [BMC Cell Biol] Abstract

Antibacterial Activity of Dentine and Pulp Extracellular Matrix Extracts
Scientists’ aim was to determine whether extracellular matrix preparations from pulp and dentine possess antimicrobial activity. [Int Endod J] Abstract
